Dear Millennial,

My 20’s taught me…

Everything is as it should be, in every moment of our lives. With time, we discover that what we consider to be an imperfect journey is actually quintessential to who we’re destined to be.

I’ve written my first letter to you so many times and I’ve changed the letter topic just as many. With each draft, the objective has always remained the same.

Be Impactful, Relatable, Vulnerable and Real.

2019 signifies a new beginning for us both, in so many ways. For me specifically, it signifies…

  • A new year of life
  • A new age
  • Endless possibilities
  • And the year my purpose found me

Finally recognizing that my imperfect journey has been the perfect journey for me all along has helped me get to what I consider to be, my peak of positivity. Focusing on the excitement of endless possibilities hasn’t always been easy for me. My assumption is that you’re like me, it hasn’t always been easy for you either and may not be in this very moment. As Millennials, we’ve got a laundry list of reasons why we feel we haven’t hit our peak. Most of them are connected to the fact that our journey hasn’t and/or isn’t as we pictured it would be, at various points that we’ve benchmarked for ourselves. We see our definition of happiness, peace, joy, success and fulfilment in the lives of others.

I’ve experienced a lot of positives and what I’d consider to be a lot of negatives in my 20’s simultaneously. Through it all, I’ve witnessed every aspect of my imperfect journey work out for my good, no matter how grim things may have seemed.

My journey has included…

Earning a bachelors degree

Securing a job after college

Earning a master’s degree

Relocating to a new city

Experiencing life living on my own

Heartbreak

Learning a foreign language

Dating

Mismanaging money (still trying to master) 🙂

Demotion

Unexpected expenses

Crying…A LOT

Loneliness

Happiness

Mending Heartbreak

Loss of several loved ones

Marriage

Becoming a bonus mom

Homeownership

And the list goes on.

In reflecting on a few of these experiences, it’s to say that each high and each low was meant for me. My imperfect journey has shaped the person that I am today and your journey is doing the same for you, I promise. The letters I’ve written have taken the shape of an ever-evolving story and I believe they will continue to do so. Had I not gone through the different instances I’ve experienced up until this point, I’m confident that my passion for supporting and encouraging other Millennials through storytelling wouldn’t exist.

I think we all can agree that life can be challenging. My hope is that the series of letters I’ve written will help you remember…

  • Some days you will be made to feel as old as you look, and some days you will blend in with everyone else.
  • Some days will be harder than other days, but it’s only temporary
  • Some days you will want to revert back to the kid everyone thinks you are, but you can’t you have to press forward.
  • Some days you’ll feel like no one understands what you’re going through, but believe me, others are experiencing the same things too.
  • Some days you’ll have a wealth of resources provided to you, and some days you’ll have to be determined enough to figure it out on your own.

We are the future, we should value and treat ourselves in a manner, that conveys that message. We have the power to go out into the world and conquer our dreams, whatever they may be. Allow these letters to help you GROW, CHALLENGE the world around you, be BETTER and gain WISDOM.

Please remember that each letter may not apply to you at this very moment, but keep an open mind. You may later find comfort in a letter that didn’t make sense a month ago, or even a season ago, based on where you are in your quintessential journey.

Embrace and Enjoy,

Millennial Jas
